A moment in time

I spent the morning in the company of Green Party Co-leader Metiria Turei (and others) and found myself in the unique position of being the bearer of strange and earth-shattering news, having watched Don Brash on Q&A announce that his Act Party were adopting as their own policy, the de-criminalization of cannabis.
That's correct, THE DE-CRIMINALIZATION OF CANNABIS.
Act Party.
Don Brash.
No wonder Boscawen has abandoned ship.
It was great to share the joke with Metiria.

Brash flails like drowning swimmer

Not content with having revealed himself us an unrepentant racist with his recent anti-Maori blathering, Donald Brash, Act head, is now championing the dangerously deluded climate-change deniers club of New Zealand by denigrating the Greens for their dismissal of Mad Lord Monckton and his barmy argument that 'the volcano dun it'. Monckton has perfected the art of misleading his audiences in live debate, making false and unsubstantiated claims with unassailable Tory arrogance and persuading those who can't check his 'facts' quickly enough to realise he lying to them. This method he employs is widely reported and wherever he goes, his challenge 'I'll debate ya!' is met with rejection. Instead, experts in the field of climate change say they welcome a written challenge where facts can be presented and checked but Monckton and his denier-backers refuse to be tested in this way. The Green Party, challenged to 'live debate' Monckton on Q&A this weekend, have described their preference to test Monckton's claims as written, but instead of agreeing to that, his supporters, including the quite clearly deluded Don Brash, have over-excited themselves and are clamouring that 'the Greens are yellow'. If the Greens do decline to dignify Monckton's challenge with an appearance on Q&A, good on them. If they do decide to put Kennedy Graham up against the Mad Lord, I'd be watching that debate with eager anticipation as Kennedy has a particular way with words and might be just the man to undo the loopy Lord of the Deniers.

Kiwipolitico knobbles Brash

Lew @Kiwipolitico has written the definitive article about Brash, Act and the moneyed world view that drives their ambition. It's a must-read.
The image, taken from Lew's blog, shows Brash trying to gain mana by big-noting at the expense of Apirana Ngata and Maori in general.
I didn't see the programme, but there's a link to the interview and I've got some time today in-between sawing and writing, so I'll definitely watch.

Best comment

What can you say about Act's weekend self-immolation?
Plenty, but nothing so elegant as this guy Rhinocrates' bull's-eye.

"Ansell’s sin, I think was lowering Brash’s dog-whistles a couple of octaves so that they were within the range of human hearing."

Weekend fun - the Act meltdown

"Prime Minister John Key was also the target of Ansell's venom in the article.
He labelled Key the "most lilly-livered Prime Minister" and an "idiot"."

This is fantastic stuff from Brash and his team. John Ansell has always been the darling of the gritty, shitty-livered Act team but today they gave him his marching orders for drawing back the yellow curtain a little too far.
Tonight's news-at-six will be a highlight for those who enjoy political humour and the sight of a nest of racists being whacked by journalists.
Ansell, Brash, Garrett, Odgers and Calvert (are there others) have burned themselves to a crisp here and that would smell sweet, were the pong of flaming racism not so pungent to the nostrils of ordinary folk like me.

Green candidate lashes Brash

Invercargill Green candidate Dave Kennedy's not afraid to call a bigot a bigot and hasn't pulled his punches in calling Don (Dodo) Brash  on his pinch-nosed comments to Federated Farmers recently.
Two extracts from Mr Kennedy's Local Bodies blog sum up his feelings toward the creaking old Act leader:

'Brash has already exposed his limited understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and I have challenged the not so subtle racism behind his "one law for all" statement previously in this blog. He may have staged a corporate take over of a minor political party, but it is still possible he could sit within the caucus of the next government and his flawed thinking may have influence. Heaven help us......"

"The other bizarre claim Brash made was around climate change, he is a total denier who claims the science is inconclusive, and his lack of concern about the ramifications of a warming planet was almost infantile."
