Kiwipolitico knobbles Brash

Lew @Kiwipolitico has written the definitive article about Brash, Act and the moneyed world view that drives their ambition. It's a must-read.
The image, taken from Lew's blog, shows Brash trying to gain mana by big-noting at the expense of Apirana Ngata and Maori in general.
I didn't see the programme, but there's a link to the interview and I've got some time today in-between sawing and writing, so I'll definitely watch.

For some balance here's the comment I left at Lew's place:

Brash makes a good point. You overlook Ngata’s view of the welfare state and how it would ruin Maori. And it has.

Lets actually address the issues rather than scream “racist” when people challenge your worldview.

Why do Maori appear unfavourably in the worst statistics, why do Maori prefer to live in Australia. Perhaps there is something in both Ngata and Brash’s comments. But of course that would conflict with your worldview.

In addition we could go on and add in the founder of the welfare states comments about the strands needing to be taught to bounce people back up into work rather than being slack like a hammock that traps individuals in poverty.

Paranormal

Sometimes paranormal, intellect isn't enough. In instances where ideological divides, such as exists here between the two 'parties' discussing 'the Maori situation' a broader view has to be taken. Adherence to the rule of logic doesn't produce a realistic answer. You and Brash and a handful of others are putting all your faith in the intellectual approach and can't see its faults. To those not so bound, the wrongness of it is glaringly obvious.
That's all I can say really. I don't expect we'll be able to agree on this issue.
