"Invercargill mayor Tim Shadbolt believes Southland and Otago may be run by a single southern council if the current National-led government is re-elected this year."
"If the present Government remains in office we could all become 'super cities'" Mayor Shadbolt said in his 'mayor's comment' segement of the ICC's draft annual plan,
"There will be forced large-scale amalgamations", he opines, summing up what he learned at the latest 'zone6 ' meeting for local body politicians.
Well Tim, if that prospect is causing you concern, it might pay to reflect on your behaviour prior to the last election when you worked vigorously to spoil Labour's chances here in the South. Your comments then doubtless contributed to the situation you as mayor, find yourself in now. Time to dub John Key 'Mugabe' now perhaps?

Interesting but oh so typical of Tim ...he was barely at the meeting he learned at the latest 'zone6 ' meeting for local body politicians.
quotes from there was a published comment from the chairperson of this meeting. I dint know how he learnt that as he was barely at the meeting he appeared at the start and then was gone minutes later
Fast absorber of information? Good radar for the swing of things?
Tim's magic touch still with him?
These are puzzles for anyone wanting to decipher Tim's pronouncements.
I suspect he's very alert behind those lidded eyes.
What did Tim do to spoil Labour's chances at the last election?
Whipped up anti-Helen Clark rhetoric, squealed about 'the Nanny State', generally signalled as strongly as he was able that Southlanders should 'vote for a change' - backed by his 'dear friend' Penny put the frighteners on everyone about SIT, that kind of thing.
I would of thought the govt 'can't afford' things like new supercities. We have seen how expensive Hide's folly in Auckland has been.and the city still has its daily traffic jams and all the same problems.
Key doesn't seem to be very good with accounts for a finance trader... unless the plan is to sell our assets to his overseas mates...
What a suggestion Anon!
Key, using NZ as a chip in the global casino?
