Taking back what's given.

In what seems to me to be a serious sign of trouble for the Maori Party, gifts of goodwill given to them by Kaipara and Tamaki Makaurau Maori will be uplifted and removed by those who originally offered them, as a sign of the retraction of confidence in the party because of the position they've taken over the Takutai Moana bill.
Marty Mars blogs on this strange turn of events here.
He quotes:

"A contingent of Kaumatua, Kuia, Pakeke,& Rangatahi from the Kaipara & Tamaki Makaurau will be arriving at Parliament tomorrow between 1-2 with the express purpose of uplifting, retrieving, and returning a 6ft hook (Matau) and anchor (punga) which was gifted to celebrate the Maori Party’s 1st year in parliament, and express support for their mangai MP Hone Harawira. The group has asked that the taonga be placed below the steps of Parliament so that they may ensure the easy return of these taonga."

I hope the television cameras are there to record this event which seems to me striking in its symbolism and a serious turn of fortune for the Maori Party. I'd like to witness that interaction.

Not really Robert.
Seems there are still many more Maori in support than against.
Strange actions from these people considering their own representation was so flippantly disregarded by their own MP, forgot to vote you see!!

How do you know there are 'many more in support' Shunda?
The reclaiming of a gift in this way is a serious attack on the mana of te pati maori, in my opinion.

I think your 'seeming' is wrong SB - the surveys and submissions are telling the real story. 'These people' are strange to those who don't understand or don't care to.

Hone has little respect for anyone else, why should I respect him?
He has made a mockery of his own position, if he doesn't like parliament or the process, seeing it as part of a "white man's institution" why the hell did he get involved in the first place?

Marty Mars said...

Who cares if you respect him - not him I'm sure and certainly not me - he got involved in parliment for all the right reasons, he's stayed for all the right reasons and he'll continue for all the right reasons - whether you can get your head around it or not.

That's the whole problem Marty, you just don't give a shit.

I guess I am just another white MOFO keepin the brown man down.

From a position slightly removed from your argument Shunda, I've found Marty to be a person who reaally does 'give a shit', as you so elegantly describe, in fact, many of his posts on Mars 2 Earth remind me very much of your own on Shundaumble - his photos in particular are sensitively taken and often accompanied by poems. He's been a supporter of Hone from the start (as I have) and has critiqued the progress/regress of Mr Harawira in detail over the past couple'a'three years.

thanks Rob

I do like Hone and i hope he gets his party sorted so that i can vote for him.

There are lots of politicians i just don't like and never will - everyone is entitled to their opinion and the ballot box will tell the story.

What do you guys think about Hone skiving off to France when he was in Europe on govt business?

Shunda barunda said...

By the way Robert, it was Marty that was accusing me of being a racist.

Marty Mars said...

if i'd wanted to call you a racist you'd be aware of it don't worry about that, but since you raise it, are you?

robertguyton said...

Hone must never be forgiven for the 'sojourn to Paris' Shunda - never, ever. It's just too bad for that.

Shunda barunda said...

Ok, so I think I am getting it now.
Hone has done a number of things that only appear to reveal a lack of personal integrity, but I must not look at these things, and I must accept that even though he looks like just another corrupt politician, he is actually rather special.

It kinda reminds me of the corruption I experienced in Church Robert, can't speak against "the Lords anointed" and all that.

And Marty, Maori deserve better than an MP that exploits their fears to retain his own 'Mana', that he forgot to vote for them reveals where his priorities really are.

lol - actually maori will determine and decide their positions but i'm sure your view will get its deserved consideration.

Why not answer my question - are you a racist?

robertguyton said...

Shunda - I didn't say we mustn't speak out about misdemeanors, I inplied that some are not unforgivable.

Right back at ya Marty, how do you view the position of the more 'pale' skinned New Zealanders?.
Do they have as much right to be here as Maori? Do they have the right to enjoy this land and call it their own?

Marty Mars said...

can't front up? why am I not surprised.

Shunda barunda said...

Because you are probably a racist.

Shunda barunda said...

How do you feel about the rape of the land and sea by Ngai Tahu Marty?
Perhaps we are just all flawed people trying to find our way, perhaps Maori and Pakeha need to get over themselves and quit this historic offence and learn to forgive and get on with it.
Divisive people are robbing us of an opportunity Marty, an opportunity perhaps uniquely available to our people and an opportunity to lead the world in race reconciliation.
No Marty, I am not a racist, if anything I am an idealist, (though I doubt that will last much longer).

Marty Mars said...

so if you're not a racist your dislike of Hone is because you think he is useless not because he is maori, is that correct?

and please cut the bullshit your insults are ineffectual

Shunda barunda said...

No Marty, divisive.

re insults, I believe you played the race card, not me.
