Brownbait-on-Avon

"Well, it's been polluted forever cobber!"

So replied a whitebaiter who refuses to lay down his net and stop baiting in Christchurch's Avon River which is running brownish with raw human sewerage.

We should be appalled, but I found his comment ... succinct.

Quake relief (teachers)

Shaking teacher

Relief teachers are needed in Canterbury and the Ministry of Education is calling for volunteers to travel to the region and teach at schools that need help.
Robyn and I have offered to go and teach wherever needed and we are waiting to hear back from them.
If we are needed soon, it'll mean a change of campaign plan amongst other things.
My bicycle might have to cool its tyres for a while, unless I can find a lookalike to ride the streets on my behalf!

Quake!

It's real - there's looting! Looting!
Sand-volcanoes bubbling up out of people's lawns!
And liquifaction!
Major lurching of the plate originating from a blind fault and the Cathedral bells were ringing!
