Quake!

It's real - there's looting! Looting!
Sand-volcanoes bubbling up out of people's lawns!
And liquifaction!
Major lurching of the plate originating from a blind fault and the Cathedral bells were ringing!
"Aftershocks are expected to scale"  - Dr Mark Quiggley

Shook like hell here Robert, up out of bed to get the kids up, then it slowed up a bit, it felt about the same as the big Fiordland quake for us.
Have a friend here from Darfield so she is anxious to get home, quite a bit of damage to her house but her family are all ok.
We live on a restless Island!!

You felt it on the Coast Shunda?
Cripes!
Not a ripple down here.
Do you think it's the result of Hubbard's foolishness Shunda?
Perhaps subsidence from the hole caused by the removal of democracy by the Government or the farmer's plans to dam the Hurunui - who can know?

A little bit more serious than first thought Robert. But an absolute miracle that there were no human deaths and so few injuries.

Inventory - yes, you are right about that!
It's astonishing that there are still significant aftershocks coming through!
I can imagine that there is a cumulative 'shakiness' with the nerves of Christchurch residents as well and many of them will be becoming fatigued in a way that is not ordinary.
I hope everything settles down soon.
No-one really thought of Chch as 'earthquake-prone' til now and it'll have people living in other regions where communities are built on sand feeling very nervous (and perhaps looking for the relevant passages in their bibles!)
