For the past 10 years I've been growing this variety of thistle. It reaches a height of about two metres and is covered with white down. I don't know its name, as its seeds arrived, not in a packet but in my pocket, following a trip through Central Otago where I found it growing. It doesn't spread here in Riverton and I have to collect and sow the seed in trays if I want to enjoy its spectacular form every year.
