Cup 'o' butter

Why would the petals of the buttercup flower be so shiny? And why are the sepals, anthers and stamens be the same bright, glossy yellow, when other flowers have those bits coloured differently? I don't know - I've got no ideas at all as to why that might be. When I asked my family, one of them suggested it's so that you can see more clearly whether you like to eat butter, when you hold a flower under your chin, but I'm not convinced that's true.
