Pigeon preens
Perched on the roof of our garage, grooming and cooing, this kereruu was not at all bothered by me and my attempts to capture his or her activity.

Awesome pics.
I got a few of one sitting in my weeping willow munching on the new buds.
But the most exiting native bird presence this early spring has been grey warblers, they're everywhere!
I equate their little tune with happiness for some reason, but others describe it as melancholy.
I like those little guys too, Shunda. We have some living here amongst the native trees. Oddly, the bird I crave most to see is the crawking grey-fronted heron.
Love the photos Robert, and that you said him/her rather than IT :-)
Some aviphile will be able to tell the gender of this manu ataahua, Jordan. His/her mate was sitting a few metres away, a'pluckin' kowhai shoots and swallowing them, all the while keeping and eye on her/his hoa kohanga.
Last one looks painful
Imagine watching an owl preen!
