I thought it was a good example of how modern society (or perhaps entertainment industry) tends to dumb down important themes for 'easy' consumption.
Still, it was a pleasant enough family evening and got some good laughs (the fish were my favorite) and the kids asked me lots of questions about why I like growing trees so much.
I've decided not to watch that version, Shunda, having seen the trailer. I've read the book though, to myself and to various classes of students. It's not an easy one to do well. Theodore was brilliant but very American. That said, there is much to be gleaned from the Lorax. His seeming lack of effectiveness annoys me but it could be said he hasn't given up yet. What did you say to your kids, when asked? Did you go all Lorax, and speak for the trees?

Come get re-enthused at the tree-party tomorrow night
I'll be there, be-suited and dangling, all things being equal.
We watched the Lorax (new version) with the kids last week.
Afterwards my daughter (completely unprompted) said for her seventh birthday she wants to plant a tree.
Needless to say, dad is very proud.
Have you seen the new Lorax movie Robert?
