Me dear old grandad..who,incidentally was a tunneler in WW1. Used to make haw wine, I only ever was allowed a wee taste, being a young un.

Grandad learnt his tunneling trade in the south Otago coal mines, the family legend is that he learnt German by listening to the krauts above his head as he tunneled and placed explosives below them.

A good lad my Grandad.

That, I didn't know, Lofty. Can you remember the taste? I'll try to make some from these haws - they are big and plentiful.

No I do to remember back that far Bob, but I would imagine that I was so excited that Grandad would treat me as a GROWNUP, I would have been 9 or 10 I suppose.

It would have tasted like nectar on that basis.
