For the Milky Bar kids

Can you explain your interpretation of this post please Robert?

robertguyton said...

Have a go at it yourself, Anonymous, I'm off down to the village to deliver soup. I'll look at your comment when I get back. Cheers.

Ever the politician. Asked a straight question and deliver question back. Was my question too difficult for you Robert? Perhaps you are not the straight shooter than you portray yourself to be?

robertguyton said...

No Anonymous (ever the anonymous commenter. I'm overt, you're covert), I was on my way out the door, down to the village to deliver soup, as stated. I'm a straight-shooter, alright. Isn't that what you criticise me for?
In answer to your question, yes, of course I can explain my interpretation of the post. Those two are living an unsustainable lifestyle (their heavy alcohol and cigarette consumption is a clue to that) and have the time to consider issues such as 'sustainability'. The speaker's take on it is that it's not something that requires anything of him personally and that he can sustain himself at someone else's expense. A more subtle interpretation might be that he doesn't live that way but recognises that others do. Again, it's that 'explaining kills the moment' thing. Did you work any of this out for yourself?

I suppose you are right Robert. I have been anonymous which makes me covert and I guess thats not very admirable. I am trying to trap you into saying negative things about the dairy industry so that I can force you from the council according to standing orders. I researched this and know I can make your chairman act. You are a problem to my industry and you have to be dealt to. Thats what I'm going to do and that's why I keep anonymous and ask leading questions. Thats just the way it is, I am sorry to say.

I wonder if anonymous would be as offended by farmer councillors acting with predetermination.

And it sounds as if s/he thinks s/he has the chairman on his/her payroll.

Me thinks you deal with a hypocrite here RG

Anonymous said...

It seems I have a doppelgänger. One the seems very overt.

Anonymous said...

Sorry.... That

Now that you have explained the cartoon Robert. Can you explain how the title relates to it? I get a sneaky feeling you are shooting around corners.
Thanks.

Anonymous@1:17
What a strange comment! Are you Anonymous@11:05?
Calling all Anonomii - you can see how difficult it is to know who's who. Adopting a pen-name isn't difficult.

robertguyton said...

Darkhorse - biased farmer-Councillors? Tell us more.

robertguyton said...

Anonmymous 7:13/7:14 you are confusing me. What do you mean?

robertguyton said...

Anonymous@7:22
Are you any of the Anonymii on this thread? And must I spoon-feed you? Explaining every nuance of a post is not something any blogger gets called upon to do, from what I've seen. What's up with that?

robertguyton said...

Further more, by your own admission, you get sneaky feelings. Should I trust you?

Anonymous said...

11.05 is me.

Anonymous said...

1.17 is not me.

Anonymous said...

Your your not going to explain the title are you?

Anonymous said...

7.22 is me.

Anonymous said...

Do I sound trustworthy?

robertguyton said...

Anon @ 7:57, 7:59, 8:00, 8:02 and 8:12 - there's no way I can keep track of who I'm addressing, with so many of you flooding the thread. I did try, but it's a bit much to ask of me, don't you think?

Anonymous said...

I think it is asking way too much of you.

Anonymous said...

Although I still cant excuse ignoring the simple question. How does the title relate to the cartoon? I dont understand the title do you care to elaborate.

This is starting to sound like a recent run of calvin and hobbes cartoons where he builds a time machine and transmogrifier and makes multiple copies of himself then has to deal with a 7oclock calvin (his past) and a 7.30 one and so forth. He realises that if he causes trouble it will be the future Calvin that suffers the consequences so choses to act recklessly as it wont be him that wears it.

Maybe some farmers are thinking the same way.

If they think that far ahead.

and covert maybe but not anonymous just mysterious.

I agreed with you until you said farmers. Southland waterways are on a world standard some of the best. And that is in part thanks to farmers and their good actions.
I think you should transpose the name Robert in there.

tom the townie said...

love it. have you read Gareth Morgans take on extreme green robert.

robertguyton said...

tom - glad you're enjoying it. Yes, I read Morgan's article. It's rather silly, light-weight and misses the mark by a mile. This comment, from another blog where Morgan's opinion was championed, gives another pov:

"Gareth Morgan is a middling economist and mediocre fund manager. Why do you think his trite views on politics are worth cutting as pasting with such reverence?"

robertguyton said...

Anonymous - have you heard of ANZECC Water Quality Guidelines and if so, do you know whether Southland rivers fall above or below those? Are you aware of the ES State of the Environment reports on water and have you read them? Are you aware of the nitrate issues in Southland? Are you au fait with the OAG Report to Environment Southland and the recommendations regarding water quality held within that report? Would you drink the water from any lowland river in Southland, and if so, could you name it/them please?
Just askin'

tom said...

light-weight and misses the mark by a mile, really how so?

Anonymous said...

I will answer your question when you answer mine. How does the title relate to the cartoon. Surely your readers deserve straight answers.

robertguyton said...

I don't require an answer from you about anything, Anonymous. In fact, I've no idea if you are one or several anonymii, so wouldn't know if you were answering my question or not, so don't trouble yourself.
Here is a list of some of the titles of just a few recent posts I've made:

Another mangel-wurzel
First, mangel, then, wurzel. Then you have beer.

Picture, thousand words

Attention Tim Shadbolt!

Now he's in the sink
My first lemon
Fungal suit

Empty bank
Punch-drunk

Rutabaga
Collapse now...

Looking for my place?
Thin blue line

Off-pat
(You tell him, Towack)

Back step, front step

Who is Joe W?
Stock on Dunne
Backbencher burns
Steampunk

Imagine if you would, if every time I used an obscure, colourful or evocative title, I was hounded to explain the subtleties of meaning by some one unable to work it out for themselves! How dull that would be. Surely, who-ever-you-are, you could at least give it a go yourself. I talked earlier about spoiling a joke by having to explain the details. My other readers must be thinking you're a very dull fellow, snagged as you are, on the smallest of details, one that has not interested one other single soul! Is there something in the words 'for the milky bar kids' that especially disturbs you? Were you forced to watch the ad over and over as a child? Was the kid a school yard bully who made your life a misery? Are you the Milky Bar kid?
I don't know that I've ever met someone as obsessed by detail as you seem to be. Do you suffer from Asperges Syndrom? I don't mean to cast nasturtiums at all - I was very sympathetic to the young Christchurch man who was obsessed with light-fittings and was wrongly accused of looting, you'll recall, and I have worked with Aspergers youths and autistic people as well and have some empathy for their condition. Maybe you should just make your own interpretation, and moove on.

Anonymous said...

What delightful behaviour. Labelling and making incorrect assumptions. Yet you still can't answer the question. What are you afraid of?

robertguyton said...

Pedants, that's what :-)

Work it out for yourself, sir (as the doctor said to the constipated man).

Anonymous said...

Crickey. That sounds like a fantastic excuse. So your willing to blog but not willing to explain the meaning of your blog? Why do details scare you? Is it possible that the details implicate you?

Karl 3 said...

so you are willing to blog but not willing to explain your blog

Anonymous have you any idea how stupid that sounds and do you realise that almst every other blogger I know of would of told you by now to fuck off

Anonymous said...

Delightful. Thanks Karl 3.

robertguyton said...

Gently Karl, family show and all that.
