Dance-floor car

There's general disquiet around Tolley's high-heeled dance on the boy-racer's car. First-up are those who say it was merely a distraction, a device used by a Government that's rolling out unpopular policies and needs to have us look the other way. Beyond that, and more discernible to those who don't question political strategies is the uncomfortable feeling that prancing on the body of a car, for many a symbol of their place in the world, is just plain insulting on a psychological level. The most pithy comment I've read so far questions; why wasn't the car given to a family that needed one?
Good question.

I agree what a waste to crush a car when I am sure agencies like salvation army and co could have easily given her a name of someone in the community whom could make good use of the car.

But then National wouldn't look tough, Pauline.
They have to look tough, otherwise people will think they're hollow men.

National seems to be hell-bent on destruction of whatever it can lay its hands on. I think most people are not supportive of anti-social behaviour, as demonstrated occassionally by young men with cheap cars, so I'm OK with some form of sanction, but why this particular one? It's an example of uncivilised behaviour being used as a response to uncivilised behaviour.

Maui dolphins next. Those sonic cannons make mincemeat of the little guys. I remember writing a letter to the editor about the first attack on the protections the Maui were subject to and getting a fevered response back from the local fisherman's spokesperson. Maybe I can stir him again. Interestingly, his surname is 'Lawless', but he's no Lucy.

Shit that a good segway, from crushed cars and dancing with the b stars to National killing Maui dolphins, classic

Yes the whole performance made me think of a 'hanging' from a much earlier era, it was really dispicable and most unbecoming behaviour for a minister; They have simply lost the plot!

Hey! Where has our policy of fewer cars fewer motorways gone?

I'm taking it to the Times, Towack. TV3 too :-)

It isn't occasional, it is all the time.

I actually don't have a problem with them crushing the cars of recidivist offenders, what I have a problem with is a government minister dancing on the spoils of war like a common thug.

It is wrong to take pleasure in the punishment of others, when you do, wait for the backlash and "us and them" thinking.

Tolley looked maniacal...couldn't discern any frothing at the mouth, but wouldn't have been surprised.
