I've grabbed a screenshot of my 'stats' from in behind the front window of this blog, to show how many people looked at the 'asset march' post since it was posted on Saturday night. There are 8 comments but rather more people than that had a look at the post, as you'll see.

It is interesting what catches people's interests, Robert, my post on Paul Holmes has had over 110 hits (and climbing) since yesterday. I guess posting can provide an indication of the strength of feeling on an issue. However it does often surprise me what posts get the most hits and I guess the title and the timing of a post can have as much a bearing on the number of hits as the content.
Most of those will have been from Holmes himself, bsprout. Time and time again he will have forgotten that he'd already read it.
I read that article this morning bsprout, agree wholeheartedly. After being overseas for a few years, upon my arrival back, could not fathom that he seemed to be a "star"?? And the fact he's still around now, blows the few-brain cells I have left. Rob's dish-mop comment, so true.
You could be right, Robert, memory loss appears to be a growing problem for those in our government and their mates.
Suz, I think celebrity is more important than capability now. Key is the perfect example of how a cheery smile and a wave at public events is more useful for staying in power than fronting up for an interview or explaining policy. Queen Elizabeth has proven the power of "smile and wave" over the last 50 years.
You're right..but in the case of Holmes, he doesn't to my mind, possess even the vacuous, shallow qualities that society is becoming increasingly enamoured with?
Hand on heart, I remember seeing him for the first time, and thought he was a piss-taking comedian; that there was no WAY this guy was for real! :)

Key is more than just a smile and a wave though bsprout. His brand is successful and he can strike back when cornered by even the best interviewer. He didn't get to be PM by being stupid. Despite his mashing of language, he uses words very craftily indeed.

I'm not sure about JK, but DK will always have my vote with that friendly smile :-) The other two can keep their trademark titian trenchcoat or quiff! :-)

The mistake you are making with both Holmes and Key is that you are judging on what you see and perceive from TV. There is where you RG in my view get it wrong sometimes, and Mr BeanSprout too. Marketing is the key. You can work very hard behind the scenes doing what you do well, but when the fickle public are watching, you sell to them the marketable brand that they want to see.
What the public tend to see from you two is all the negitive spin you write to the papers, and that is where their view of you is grown from. Yes there is heaps of positive stuff you do but it only reaches minorities, something to think about.
Holmes is a plonker, but he rides on the perception that he created years, actually decades ago, for aq plonker, he has done well.
You're quite right, Towack. I often find, when speaking to some service group or other, someone will come up afterwards and say, 'But you're so nice. I expected a hard-bitten critic." or words to that effect. Truth is, I don't mind people thinking I'm a curmudgeon. Bsprout is a hard-bitten curmudgeon, so there's nothing that can be done about that! :-)
Thats far too big a word for me to argue with. Plus I don't know BSprout - but my opinion, based upon his poliferic letter writing is.....
Ya lost me Towack...Holmes is a plonker period, regardless of your political bent..a talentless interviewer, often seemingly uninformed with no personable attributes that I can see...Apparently I'm in the minority given the little gnome still manages to grace our air-waves?
Hey I totally agree, and what gets me is how sexist he is, a greasy git however the demographic he aimed at back in the eighties loved him and I guess that is who are watching him now.
I've just turned 45, until recently a National voter (don't tell RG), and still have yet to encounter a person of any persuasion who doesn't regard him as a toss-pot of the highest order...forgive my mild hysteria Towack/Animal but the little wanker never fails to make my blood boil!
