You gotta be so careful these days!

"Dr Norman says he has called Prime Minister John Key to apologise, and has offered the Green Party's assistance in fixing the signs. Mr Key has reportedly accepted the offer."

The stickering of National Party billboards with messages like 'The rich deserve more', has resulted in criticism being levelled at the Green Party, due to the involvement of the husband of one of their staff. Those who seek to harm the Green's reputation will immediately claim the Green Party were knowingly involved in the stickering, while those who support the Greens will say that the party would not condone the stickering, and that it's not possible for any party to control those who associate themselves with it, and so on and so on.
Russel Norman moved quickly to attend to speculation and in my opinion, did the right thing. Naughty husband guy, I say. Though the stickers were of high quality and the message one that will resonate with many New Zealanders, the act of sticking them on is not acceptable to a lot of people and needs to be criticised for what it is. That said, it's a minor act when compared with the cutting out of faces from billboards and so on, that goes on throughout the country at this time of the electoral cycle.
None of the stickering was done down here in the South. I guess us southern Greens will earn a great deal of praise from the Right-wingers who are busy now with their stinging comments. Some people of course, will cheer the messages and while they may not have seen them as they go about their business, they are bound to get a glimpse of them on tonight's news.

“I believe the defacing of the billboards is vandalism and condemn these actions,” he told reporters at Parliament.
“I am incredibly disappointed about what they have done.”

A shame someone took it too far. Well done Russell for fronting and dealing transparently with what could have become a crisis.

Quite a different response to the tea tapes participants.

Russel did well. Worry-wort that I am, I do hope there aren't more green-associates involved, though it's not too much of a stretch to imagine that people who support the message of the stickers will also support left wing parties.
We shall see.
It is amusing how the tea-tapes story hasn't seen the light of day on blogs that will run the 'stickers' story at high revs (and already are.) No doubt they'll shower me with praise for putting up this story as soon as I found it :-)

But they were careful,Robert. Kept it under wraps for over two months. Another two weeks and we would have been home free.

"They", Anonymous?
Who are "they"?

Those silly fellows. They should have copied the National Party supporters down here who slash the signs with knives or set fire to Labour billboards :( much quicker

Yes, Bio. Stickers that reveal the truth about National's plans are for pansies!
They'll be hounded by the Righteous Right for their temerity!

The Greens, Robert, the sooooooo squeaky-clean Greens, Robert. Your holier-than-thou Greens.

Yes Anonymous, the Greens, as Russel so eloquently said, aren't behind this. So the statement stands. The Greens have integrity. Russel showed this today.
Those rotten husbands of Green staffers though! Grrrrr!

You sound like you are writing that from a cell of some sort? Far be it from me to conjecture that it may have soft walls.
