We organised a working bee at the West Plains orchard this afternoon. For those who hadn't been there before, we marked the way with red balloons and green paper leaves :-)
Dave brought a fadge full of powdered sheep dags, as you do, and shovelled them for us to spread around the bases of the young trees.
After a couple of hours of tending trees, we had a picnic - cider from me, cheese and some delicious fig chutney from a German woman whose name I've forgotten already and other outdoor foods from the other orchardeers. Here are some of us, relaxing.
It was good fun. I learned a few interesting things about gardening from John and about the vaults of libraries from Lisa. Geoff gave me some good advice about striking buddleia and Adair gave us a very old map of West Plains that showed where each farmhouse was and which of them had orchards. Good fun, we plan to go out there once every couple of weeks, as much for the good time as the work we might achieve.
