Big ups to Cactus Kate

Not Cactus Kate

Well I never! An honest description of our education system and its teachers from a Right-wing blogger. Cactus Kate, from what I consider the far-right, tells the truth about New Zealand's education system and the teachers who have been on the bullied end of John Key, Anne Tolley and their National Party stooges, ever since this Government came into power. Kate has no need to try to damage teacher's reputations, nor that of our education system, so she tells it straight.

"I will be the only right-wing blogger brave enough to admit it but I believe New Zealand has among the best teachers and best education standards in the world. I've employed staff all around the world and worked with people from all sorts of educational backgrounds. I've seen what education produces in other countries and it's not that impressive. New Zealand employees in a worldwide labour market already have an advantage when we set foot off the plane.

There isn't anything fundamentally flawed in New Zealand's education system. Most teachers aren't all bad patch protecting unionists. And the answer to all perceived problems in education isn't issuing vouchers so every child can attend an Auckland Grammar in a neighbourhood near them."

Cactus Kate earns 3 gold stars from this teacher and goes to the head of the class. I'll ask her to take no notice of the mob in the corner, wearing their self-made dunce hats and mumbling about 'standards' and readin' n riting'.
Kate's full post is well worth reading.
Oh, and Kate ends with a message that Mr Roy should take heed of:

"National Party strategists could be best to tell Tolley to zip it this election and stay away from inane waste releases such as this one that serve little purpose but rile Unions who then put pressure on where it is not needed. Even non-Union teachers would be pissed off reading this release which has a worse effect, they are more likely to join the Union as a result."

Give us a break. She's winding you all up. Anyway, talking of a giving us a break, didn't you bugger off to commune with sandlfies in Fiordland?

Winding us up? Sounds like straight talking commonsense. Cactus Kate is known for straight talking and I struggle with the basis for many of her opinions, but in this case she is spot on. You only need to teach in the UK, as I have, to discover that New Zealand teachers are like gold over there. All I had to do was say I was a kiwi and I was never short of work. New Zealand teachers teach the children in front of them, not blindly following systems, and it works.

Naturally I'm with bsprout on this one. And with Cactus Kate, much to my surprise. Read her piece again, PMofNZ and appreciate how significant her breaking ranks and telling the truth is. Makes both National and Acts garbled pronouncements about edukashin sound idiotic.
Sandal-flies? Weren't they the bane of the 70's-hippies lives? Pesky little ankle biters!
