Mr Tashkoff

I don't know Peter Tashkoff but I read his thoughts on the occasions when he emails them from Auckland, where he lives, to the editor of the Southland Times, where they print those thoughts in the 'letters' column. I suspect other newspapers also publish the thoughts of Mr Tashkoff.
He makes a lot of sense.
Today, Peter's topic is the Government and it's bullish ways. He believes that the domineering stance taken by this Government, in particular that of Key and Collins, is counter-productive.
He begins,
"Both John Key and Judith Collins have over the years displayed hints of their view that the state must always be seen to be dominant, right or wrong..."
He goes on to discuss the dropping by police of the charges against the Urewera 'not-terrorists-after-all', and the refusal to treat those affected by the raids; those who have had charges dropped as well as those caught up in the action because of where they lived or who lived in their communities, neighbourhoods, flats, with respect. Mr Tashkoff ends his letter with;
"...all they are doing is contributing to a weakening in the structures they seek to maintain, and provoking a contempt for the authority they rather seek to promote."

I believe Mr Tashkoff is another jilted ACT try hard. One who tossed his toys out earlier this year. Others say he was fired after bagging his would be boss in the yellow jacket.

Like yourself, one with an agenda of epic proportion, a legend in his own lunchtime.

Peter is a good bloke with a keen understanding of our freedom and how best to maintain it.

Paranormal

Anon, his skills may be legendary, but openly bagging your leader is not the way to win friends. Despatched in a similar fashion as the fabled one winging his way on a one-way ticket from Te Atatu to Kabul.

I'm liking him more and more PMofNZ!
Fancy bagging Rodney!
Legend indeed!

Paranormal - from what I've read from Peter so far, I agree with what you've said here.

jabba! 'Whitty' - you did well there - I'm reviewing my assessment of you.
A little.

I have been a fence sitter since the Urewera incident. With the thinking for our police to act so aggressively, there must have been cause for their intervention. But I must admit reading lately of the forced holding for about two hours in armed capture of whom it declared were innocent victims. My sense of justice is demanding answers such as the putting a rifle in a 12yr old face ..the force capture holding of a mother of a baby who was in her home and refusing her request to be allowed to go and see to the child . and so on..this is not the type of behaviour I expect of my police

A strong police force can be an advantage to society pauline, but checks and balances are needed to keep them as servants, rather than masters. The Urewera 'incident' clearly reveals that the line can be and has been crossed. For the public to have confidence in the police, there must be clarity and transparency. refusals to 'come clean' by the police and the Government, just so they can maintain their 'hardman' image will only work in part. Many people see through that posturing straight away.

Tashkoff represented the principled and consistent erstwhile liberal faction in the ACT Party.

They have now all been dispatched by the bigoted & climate denial opportunist faction, who now have total control.

I enjoy his letters and am pleased he sends them throughout the country.
Act has a good side Toad?
I'm taken aback!

Peter Tashkoff is someone I have time to listen to, because he often makes a fair it of sense.
It's a shame that ACT were taken over by the conservatives and scientific illiterates; there is a place for a proper liberal party in NZ's parliament (though it's a small one). In fact, I'd have considered voting for ACT lead by someone like Peter Tashkoff, if the economic policies weren't so loopy.

Does he comment anywhere other than letter to the ed?

There was a very interesting exchange on The Standard a year or so ago, when ACT were having one of their blood-lettings. Peter Tashkoff made a good contribution to what could have otherwise been a...well, you know what The Standard can get like.
He seems to pop up on blogs, commenting, at various times.
