Todd McClay - Tory

"There will be people who will say this is an infringement on civil rights. But these are members of gangs; people who attack old ladies in the streets or sell drugs to their grandchildren"

National MP and Tory Todd McClay has gone gang-busters with his new Private members bill, that seeks to ban gang patches from all Government buildings.
Go Todd, you dill. If you've seen Todd in action (he was on Backbenches recently) you'll know why I tag him 'Tory' - he's a toff. Todd is dismissive (who'd have guessed that?) of those who don't accept his righteous call for banning patches.

"Opponents of the ill-fated Whanganui by-law had argued it was a breach of civil rights and freedom of expression.
But McClay said he had no sympathy for those who were offended by his proposed legislation." the Sunday Star Times reports.
No sympathy Todd?
Something else missing there too. Todd hasn't been set-back by the over-turning of the Whanganui ban by the courts and will steam on regardless, secure in the knowledge that he's jolly-well right about this!
Lord preserve us from such dangerous twits!
*Up-date - my view is supported unwittingly, from the far Right, by Lindsay  Mitchell  who says:

"This country is so schizophrenic about gangs. This approach can only be described a bumbling attempt to brush them further under the carpet. There still there though. And once again ACT appears to be in support"

I'd like to see suit and ties worn by people with over large investment portfolios banned from government buildings ;-)
