Prisons don't work

Both Bill English and Heather Roy have flipped 360 degrees on their previously held views on prisons.
Now, it seems, prisons don't work and cost us huge amounts of money.

Had these politicians (McVicar excluded - he's a dangerous loon) listened to the Greens, who have been talking sense over this issue for ever, we'd not be in the disgraceful position we find ourselves in now  - a country with ridiculous numbers of its people behind bars.

My view?
It's a massive, highly-spun con on the public of New Zealand and behind it will be some fiscal issue that National has become aware of.
A soft, caring Judith Collins?
A National Party, embracing rehabilitation?
