Early start

Up at 4:30 this morning in order to get to the airport on time. Robyn's flying to Wellington for the Green Ribbon Awards and a chance to rub her southern shoulders with those belonging to people from other parts of the country.
It was frosty and cold first thing. So cold in fact, that the aircraft couldn't be re-fueled, due to a frozen valve, so the flight was delayed for about an hour. Once it was thawed, the gas pumped in and the plane off the ground and on its way, I drove to Queen's Park to catch the sunrise, camera in hand.
Here's what I caught. The first is a curled and dried leaf, warmed by the first rays.

The bronze seals in near the children's playground looked quite reptilian and frosty.

My shadow fell across this tree's trunk and I thought, 'Self portrait'.

Then I saw this poppy, felled by the frost perhaps.

By the time I'd caught these images, my hands were frozen.

Heh; we saw them setting up for the awards tonight; looks as though it was going to be a good do.

The Environment Centre people from around the country deserve recognition - I hope it comes there way tonight. It was our Centre's 15 year birthday a couple of days a go and as part of the celebrations we watched video taken of our 5th, when Rod Donald presented us with a cheque from the Labour Government, brokered by the Greens. Up til then, we'd been fund-raising for everything. It was a breakthrough. Rod was entertaining and generous. I hope Nick Smith will announce tonight, increased support for centres like ours.
See anyone interesting at Parliament Inv2?
I sat in Rod's possum-skin covered chair in the House and felt quite at home:-)

No names; no pack-drill Rob. Copperfields was full of MP's just before the House sat. I have blogged that I saw Trevor Mallard though, and if you're a betting man, get your coin on the Whale in the Great Cycle Challenge; Trevor looks a long way from ready for a 60km cycle race.

Both seem in poor condition Inv2.
Perhaps the two of them should stick to blogging and leave the physical stuff to those who are up to it.
I'd not bet on either.
In fact, I've no interest in their challenge. There are real ones to be had.
