The birds eat them but this year I've collected them for jammin'. There's a recipe somewhere. I'll probably mix them with something. We've a ton of quinces this year, and crab apples.

Quince (just been picking some). And... was just trying to remember the name of the other one as my neighbour's shrub is in fruit too.

You're right, it is a japonica apple (destined for jellying, along with its mates).
The other fruit is from cornus capitata, the Himalayan strawberry tree.
