National legalizes cannabis!

I'm more than a little astonished!
Our National Government makes cannabis legal in New Zealand and there's nary a whisper in the newspapers, not a squeak on the TV news and not a murmer from the cheap seats!

Read and see if you can  make sense of it all.

Well this is very good news and i'd like to see hemp used in many more ways - pressing the seeds for oil is good, using the fibre for hempcrete and other building products and so on. of course that hemp is grown for that purpose which is a little different from getting medicinal THC, which is really just the active parts.

The sufferers of pain will be very happy about this stealth decision.

They will Marty..kind of. It's very, very expensive, without subsidies of some kind.
I'm still puzzled :-) by the lack of visibility in the media.

Nary a whisper? It was reported in the ODT and you've linked to a story in Stuff which would have been in other papers.

A very muted response Ele, in my opinion.
Imagine if the Greens had levered this decision!
Calamity!
End of civilization as we know it!!
Harrumph harrumph!!

Very useful plant.
But can unfortunately make very useless people when abused.
Seen so many people smoke their potential away.

Apples (cider)
Hops (beer)
Wheat, barley, rye (beer, whiskey)
Agave (Tequilla)
Wormwood (absinthe)
Sloes (gin)
All 'Very useful plants.

Seen so many people drink their potential away.'

I can see both sides of the argument, but anyone that encourages young people to 'smoke' has rocks (stones? :) ) in their head.
Research has made a clear link to brain damage in young people, and smoking weed, it also stays in the body much longer than alcohol.
If one has a glass of cider or wine it doesn't lodge itself in the tissue of the brain for weeks, does it?
I am undecided on legalisation but pretty sure decriminalising it is sensible.

Who, Shunda, who, is encouraging young people to smoke cannabis???
The liquor industry, otoh, seem to be encouraging young people to drink (RTDs anyone? They're pink sugary and have fun-fun names!)

Ok Robert!
I reckon increase the price of alcohol then.
Doesn't worry me because the quality of the home brew that is now being produced is getting pretty darned good!!
Revive the lost art of conviviality! (I just learned what that word means and have decided to become a convivialiist)

Tolkien's hobbits equate conviviality with smoking weed in a pipe.

Just as well I'm not a hobbit then.
Weed is hardly a social drug anyhow.

Wana kill conversation, bring out the buds.

I knew a guy from Blackball that made amazing furniture when he was stoned. The problem is his 'method' was not so good when it came to using power tools. Unfortunately the skilsaw got two of his fingers (they had to pull the saw apart to get one out) Ouch!!
Then again, I managed to cut the cord off my skilsaw last week and I wasn't on anything!
