Brownlee sees sense

Big man listens to reason

Yesterday in the House, Earthquake Minister Gerry Brownlee said that he expected that all further OICs would be "dealt with before the year's end"
Good. Then 'Makes-the-earth-move' (Indian name) Brownlee can put the appalling Canterbury Earthquake Response and Recovery Act to the sword, repeal it, whatever, just so long as that abomination is buried and not brought to the surface again.
And good on Kennedy Graham for prising that from the Minister Responsible for Quakes.
Now, if Kennedy can wake Key up to the stupidity of changing our employment laws to suit the Warner Brothers bully boys and perhaps even stop him from pouring our tax monies into their outstretched claws    hands.

I Agree Mr Guyton.

Don't you mean Australian bullies?
You know those shameless:

"it's not about the workers it's all about politicising the union movement that once had morals and actually cared about workers but now is just a long arm of narcissistic ideologues who can't see the stupidity of cutting of your(not theirs) nose to spite your face"

You've been suckered Shunda but you're not alone.
You think that Warners are the good guys, right?
Let's think about that for a moment...
there we are! They're not!
Simple!
Anon - you're a very perceptive person!

Nope they're not the good guys, but oh what an opportunity that wonderfully caring union with the purest of motivations has handed them!!
This is an appalling example of ideology over values (from both sides).

The 'unions' did inadvertently present an exploitable opportunity Shunda, it's true, but that doesn't diminish their genuine intent. Warners, on the other hand are a sociopathetic comglomerate. You should learn to discern between the two 'groups'. One is life enhancing, the other, destroying.

I think that was once true Robert, but now Unions are just the new bullies on the block more interested in their particular political ideology than a genuine concern for the "working man and his family"
Warners are an american business and they do business the way all modern businesses do; find a pressure point and exploit it for all it is worth.
But anyway, the Hobbit is staying here and it all worked out pretty well in the end considering the mess those busybodies created.

Let's see Shunda ... Warners have pressured that our employment laws to be changed and have been pledged $25 000 000 extra to film here.
Not bad going.
They must have been negotiating with an easy-beat!

Furthermore - those 'busybodies' you seem to dislike so much - how do you rate their behaviour compared with that of the 'American business' that 'find a pressure point and exploit it for all it's worth'.
You seem to be giving that kind of behaviour the thumbs-up and that of the 'busybodies' the brunt of your displeasure. Just out of interest, how would you feel if the law around the employment of nurserymen was changed overnight due to demands from McDonalds?

Robert, call me old fashioned but I see a difference between fighting for the rights of employees that are being genuinely screwed, and a stroppy ideology driven union holding the equivalent of a gun to the head of a production for crimes they "might" commit.
I have no love for corporate America and their exploiting ways, I also feel real anger at people who supposedly represent a noble cause yet so devalue the principles it was founded on.

Yes, yes I see that Shunda - you're mightily peeved ... but on Warners... 'find a pressure point and exploit it for all it's worth'.

I don't see the significance.
If an Australian union started making decisions for NZ nursery workers without a democratic vote I know who I would be angry at.
Since when did the unions authority trump the "workers rights".

Unions are parasites!

A brick bat Robert for aiming a shot at Gerrys size, aim at the policies, not the person

SouthernRight - cartoonists take the features characteristic of celebrities and politicians, exaggerate them and use them over and over in a not-necessarily unkind way. Brownlee is large and his copulence is hard for me to overlook and fun to 'play' with.
I accept that there are people who don't enjoy the lampooning of members of their favourite team and so accept your brick-bat. There has been a great deal written about the act the Brownlee and his crew have enacted and it seems largely to have fallen on deaf ears. Are you a supporter of it?
Your 'Unions are parasites' claim is kinda funny in light of your 'aim at the policies, not the person' advice.
I'll pass the brickbat back :-)

Havnt even read the act - some of us have to get on with life and work to pay the taxes that these politicians get to squander (and thats all parties). National certainly arent my favourites (maybe my name refers to the whale), I can poke holes in lots of crap they do - ie listening to Hide over the changes to the foreshore bill. I just feel that picking on a bloke cos he is large is too easy, and as for picking on the unions, it their policies I cant stand. Here I am, working my ass off for no payrise in the middle of a recession, lucky to keep my job and they want more of my taxes for more money for their cronies in the hospitals and schools, one answer for them - NO

Southernright (whale, not tory), sounds like you need to align yourself with others in your position...how about joining a union!
