This bloom is that of datura stramonium or Jimson weed, a plant with dangerous alkaloids that you wouldn't want coursing through your veins. It smells very strongly of marmite, of all things, and doesn't thrive in Southland, finding the weather a little cool for its liking, which is just as well, as it makes a pest of itself further north. They will grow here, if given a sunny spot. The delicate form of the flower make it worthwhile fussing over but don't include it in your salad!
