...pumpkin, and he's growing apace. It's not especially easy to grow curcubits in Southland; special protection and cunning management is needed in order to get a crop that's worthy of showing off, but I've managed this year to fill my tunnelhouse with this variety (unknown) and nurture them to fruition. In fact, all of the plants were self-sown and came inside with the compost I'd made on the kitchen-scraps-dominated heap nearby. They sprouted late-ish in the season and took off. I've watered assiduously and liquid manured once. I'll do another round today, which will make the tunnelhouse a no-go area for a couple of days. Must pick the ripe tomatoes first. I'm filled with hope and expectation that one day I'll be eating this globe. I'm planning already to cut off the top, scoop out the seeds and fill the cavity with whole garlic cloves then bake the wee beauty til soft.
