Now that my frog pond is complete and sporting pond-weeds and a gnarly log for the frogs and dragonflies to settle upon (and their young'uns, under) I'm thinking butterflies. To that end, I've planted my first butterfly bush. Buddleia are feared in some parts on New Zealand, as they can become a pest, so I'll be watching mine closely, both for signs of multiplication and signs of butterfly occupation. Here's a photo of a bloom on a shrub at West Plains. It's the variety I've planted.
