Planet National

Bomber's not fooled by Key and English and their rabbiting-on about 'Planet Labour'. He describes Planet National in graphic detail here on his Tumeke blog.

(Sample)

"It's a spin attack that unfortunately for National cuts both ways, if life on 'Planet Labour' is so awful, what's life like on Planet National?
On Planet National, they have responded to the global economic crisis caused by failed free market dogma by adopting more failed free market dogma.

On Planet National, they have responded to the global economic crisis by punishing all those beneficiaries who had no hand in causing it. No beneficiaries were on the phone in 2007 to their Wall st stockbroker buying lite crude in Euros while speculating on the Goldman Sachs derivatives market, yet the redneck dog whistle of bashing beneficiaries has never been blown so hard and so frantically. What is it with rich people wanting to interfere in the sex lives of the poor? NOTE: None of this intrusion into the personal sphere of the individual is 'nanny state', it's only 'nanny state' when the interference is into the middle and upper classes.

On Planet National, they have responded to the global economic crisis by denigrating the Maori Council and the Waitangi Tribunal.

On Planet National, they have responded to the global economic crisis by giving the private prison industry a billion dollar private prison.

On Planet National, they have responded to the global economic crisis by ramming through the largest erosion of civil liberties since the Waterfront lockout.

On Planet National, they have responded to the global economic crisis by raising gst to subsidize a borrowed tax cut for the richest NZers so that they can afford to buy shares in assets that we all collectively own AND THEN astoundingly offer those richest NZers a sweetener deal on top of their largesse."

The problem with this commentary is that the author is also on another planet.

Perhaps 'planet left wing ideologue' or 'Planet angry socialist', either way, his planet is just as stuffed as 'planet national'.

Politics is a land of partial truths and dual agendas, and there are no doubt national MPs and supporters that think the way he describes, there is also no doubt that there are very real issues that need resolving around welfare abuse and dependency and rising crime.

The left NEVER talk about that...............

He's certainly an angry guy, Shunda. Doesn't mean he can't see the faults in another's behaviour though. He expresses himself bluntly and upsets gentle, level-headed souls like yourself, but can see through the smoke well enough. There are indeed Nats who think like that. There are issues that need resloving, as you say but when you make claims like "The left NEVER talk about....whatever, I see Bomber in you :-)

Perhaps you could link to a single article describing welfare abuse and how to solve it by a left wing commentator to prove me wrong.

Beneficiaries are a political football, the political left wing have an incentive to keep it that way.

There is no 'single article', Shunda. It's a complex question and requires far more thought and compassion than Paula Benefit is able to apply to it. Her recent 'suggestions' have been nothing more than sprinkling salt into a wound. There are prescriptions from the Left that go a long way toward a humane solution to solving the problem of benefit abuse. I am impressd though, that you make a distinction between 'welfare' and 'benefit abuse'. That is, you seem to see a role for a welfare system, rather than none at all. That separates you from the right wing commenters and that's encouraging.

Free market?

I am at a loss as to know what he is talking about.

It's a breed of dogma, Shane.

Like Bennet or not, her changes are in line with a majority of kiwi thinking. Labour spent years making life easy for those on the benefit, it about time someone said enough is enough.
Yep - the benfit isnt a good place to be, it hard to survive, not much money, I agree to it all, but making it better and better is not going to encourage people to get off it.
Over 20 people in NZ have had more than 10 kids whilst on a solo benefit, they take in over a $1000 a week of benefit payments, bout time something changed.

Over 20 people!!!
Sound the alarms!
Paula Benefit releases the details of beneficiaries who protest, hints at sterilization of young mothers on the DPB, opposes the same assistance she enjoyed as a single mother, talks about food parcels for beneficiaries and on and on and on. She's a bully, a hypocrite and a nanny-statist. She just what we don't need to make changes to the system.
I suspect her ideas are not in line with the thinking of the majority of New Zealanders, though you'd probably believe that if you listened to idiots like Michael Laws and his throw-the-dogs-some-red-meat talkback radio.
