Bloom

I've never known a flower to develop so slowly as this brugmansia!
I'm patiently waiting for the display and the bloom grows longer by the day, but I'm having to really restrain myself from urging it on - not that that would do any good. By now, the bloom plus calyx and stalk are as long as my forearm and hand combined - massive in comparison with any other flower I've grown. Super-exotic too. I'm expecting scent and moths when it finally opens its throat.

There was one of these flowers at the Dunedin Horticultural Autumn Show and it didn't look much more open than this one. I measured it with my forearm and it wasn't quite that long :)

Mine's spreading by the hour. I'll post the next shot today.
