The worst thing about dictatorships is that they have always been welcomed by many. That is profoundly devastating to one’s faith in human nature.

The supporters of the blue team have rolled out the blue carpet.
Rhinocrates would do well as chief of staff at Labour. I suspect the first action would be a thorough clean-out.
I expect the law of unintended consequences will manifest itself on this one. Why pretend to be anonymous when that anonymity is a fiction? May as well oppose them openly.
Johnny Sparkles has reassured us that we won't all be spied on. I guess that means his most fervent supporters are safe and you'll only be spied on if you voted for someone else or didn't vote. And that's all legal now, right? He sure has lost lots of sparkle recently.

An effect of the Act is to remove anonymity. This makes anonymous opposition impossible. However, making anonymous opposition impossible does not destroy the oppositional aspect (though it harms it), it destroys the anonymous aspect. Therefore the effect is to bring out opposition from its veil of anonymity.
In short, people in general may, as an unintended consequence of the legislation, become much more aware that not everyone loves John Key.
