I found this comment on a rightwing blog and found it thought provoking...

Not to mention Tom Jackson, treasury recommending Sth Canterbury Finance fail on it’s merits. But NOOOO…Bill English rolled them over and guaranteed an 805 million dollar bailout on the taxpayers dime.
Never lie to someone who trusts you and never trust someone who lies to you.
When Helen got voted out i believed Key was the right person for the job, given the GFC and all. I thought , yeah…a reformed bankster looking to help out the country that helped him out was honourable and decent and decided to give him a fair suck of the old sav. Like the anecdote that reformed criminals and hackers make the best security personell.
Turns out Key isn’t reformed nor honourable nor decent. He’s just another self serving lying politician who wants us to trust him to act in our best interests. A slippery fork tongued snake oil salesman of the highest order.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me…Fool us three times at the next election and it’s beyond shame. It’s a national disgrace, beyond the embarrassment this government already is.

I'm not sure whether to admire or despise the commenter.
John Key's facade and lack of suitability to be PM seemed obvious enough back in 2006 and there's not much he's done since to change my mind.
On the other hand, the government won a slim majority at the election, despite polls that suggested an outright majority was possible. Clearly those polls were overstating the support for the government, however they may be a useful indicator of changes of support for the government. On the basis that the polls generally show a fall in support for the government, we can conclude that the one seat majority is under significant pressure, and may in fact be gone. The nature of the commenter's words provides an independent anecdotal confirmation. Given the highly partisan nature of political bloggers and commenters, I can see why this comment stood out.
What it leads me to think about is, first,, how dull the howls of "the other lot are worse" are and second, that it is obvious why the right want Shearer as the leader of the opposition.
He represents many people I talk with, AC, in his initial lack of perception and his latter epiphany. I don't trust that kind of change very much - there's a flaw in there that can be exploited again and again, but as he's indicative, I thought him worth reposting.
