Having a roll-up at the Pavilion
On its heyday (not literally a day, I learned, but for the sake of this comment, yes, one day, the best day!), the Pavilion Bowling Club looked like this with the greens all be-decked with bowlers in their whites and creams, kitties and Hensalites rolling (no lignum vitae monsters on the cotula - I've got those safely tucked away for a rainy day), pavilion newly-painted and the sun shining on all and sundry. Must be about 10 o'clock, judging by the shadows. Later in the history of the green, it turned Karitane yellow, when the clay bank, covered by vegetation in this earlier photo, slid down in a sloppy rush, to cover everything, knee-deep. Cutting down the trees on the steep banks that border the green was someone's idea. The club's extinct now, and the green grazed by sheep. The pavilion that looks so pregnant with potential, is softening and getting wibbly. It's odd to me that this area hasn't become something attractive.

Oh my goodness look at that! What did they do with all of the sheep?
