The Fruit Hunters

It is a fascinating read and because I don't want to be seen to be overly interested in politics, I'll be posting snippets from the book as I progress through it, rather than cheering on Key's fall from grace.

Tonight I found this wonderful advice from Adam:

"Next time you find a good peach, try biting the bottom - it's sweeter."

why do you not want to be seen to be overly interested in politics?

"Overly" is never good.
Interested, yes. Hasn't Paula Bennett been served a blow as a result of her cost-cutting ways! Those booths - such a clever idea, are going to cause her hell. I don't want to sound overly excited by this, but I do like to see miserliness turned back on the miser!
Are you overseas?

I'm unsure what to make of it, because it seems like business as usual for this government. I wonder how bad they need to be.
Not overseas, yet. I'm off to Australia, to take some time away from Christchurch and also to assess whether to invest in one way tickets for five more people.

Noooooo!

plenty of water to flow under the bridge before then...
Back to my original reason for commenting, your blog has been less political, in terms of the number of political posts and in terms of your expression of your own opinions, as I see it. Is that real or just my perception? If it is deliberate, why?

Your observation is correct, AC. I've been consumed by work lately - giving workshops on grafting and speaking to various groups about living a green lifestyle, and have had my attention on that. Presently, I'm out in the garden whenever I can be, inspired to plant all of the fruit trees and bushes I grew last year and have sat til now in my nurseries. I've been involved in some very interesting 'agricultural' discussions as well, but now that I've disabled the anonymous function, or perhaps it's coincidental, my comment numbers have dropped significantly (the number of visitors has barely changed though - perhaps people prefer just to browse and keep mum), so I've not bothered to post provocative farming stuff for fear that it'll sit there, unchallenged.
That said, I'm quite relaxed about where this blog might go, up, down, sideways or whatever. I have focused more on our radio show, as a way to express my ideas, and on the local rag, in which I've a letter about the blossoming apple tree project, due for publication tomorrow. I kind of feel that Key and his crew are doomed and cannot pull out of their death dive now, and so there's no need for me to irritate any tory over that. There will be opportunity for that on election eve.
Does this make the mud any less opaque?

actions rather than words. good stuff. I've been consumed by work too, it has messed with my head because it has been phenomenally difficult, and I feel no sense of achievement.
Key et al are doomed, and I think that is why there are fewer comments on blogs; defending the indefensible is a thankless task. Or so I am told.

Dear (oh dear!) Keeping Stock has a post up on the WINZ issue, but no righties are rallying to Bennett's defence there, (save jabba, who's a clotand even he is being circumspect though he won't know the word), so I guess that's a good illustration of what you describe, AC.

Pro govt blogs have been filled with more trivia than ever of late. KS has "the guy who jumped out of the balloon" and "the soccer was a draw" to distract from MSD. And, omg, someone put up a cheeky sign at a DOC hut. The end is nigh.
It's so see-through it's laughable.
Best of luck with your non-blogging ventures. If you blog about them you will inspire others.

a single post of yours inspired me, for example, to greatly enlarge my garden.

robertguyton said...

That's very gratifying, AC. If I'd done two posts on the topic, would you have made your garden twice as big?
In fact, I'm was wanting to talk about my roadside, so now I will!

I'm was!
