Jack Murrell recently wrote to the editor, that my concern for eels was misplaced as were my thoughts about lignite mining.
My reply appeared in today's Southland Times.
Mining shortsighted
Jack Murrell would sell the ground beneath our feet it seems, so long as it returned a buck for us to spend on the things we want to have. Digging up lignite coal as he suggests will affect our climate badly and our farmers, fishermen; all of our primary producers that create the wealth our region is known for, will suffer in an unstable, unpredictable climate.
To undermine the good conditions we have right now for the sake of coalmining seems very shortsighted.
Mr Murrell declares that he wants to see us get what we deserve. I worry that we will.

Should it be the elderly climate deniers who determine our future or those who will be living in this planet 30-40 years from now (and believe in mainstream science)?
I don't think Jack's determining our future, bsprout. Trying to, but not in a position to be very influential.
Going to Riversdale tomorrow evening?
