Transit of Venus day - Riverton

Looking at the weather maps, it seems much of New Zealand is having a rough time today, which is unfortunate for those astronomers looking to witness the transit of the planet Venus across the face of the sun.
They should have come to Southland, it's beautiful here - the skies are clear and not a breath of wind blows.
Here are two images caught 5 minutes ago.

It's probably not too late - get the car fired up, board a plane, whatever it takes, get down here!

Wow, what a contrast. Our whole property is underwater and bits of houses and garden sheds are blowing down the street!

Lucky we have raised piles, we have our own private island!!

Wow, snow on the West Coast.

Something's up with the climate, Shunda!
Wonder what??
I hope you don't suffer to much damage or inconvenience. Sounds exciting, private island and all and snow! Crikey!

What part of the coast are you on Shunda?

We're in the Geymouth area, the snow seems to blast in for a few seconds and then turns back into rain/hail. I suspect it is snowing steadily inland though.

The waves at the tip head are absolutely massive, I've been out with my camera and got some good shots.

I had some of my wedding pics taken at the tip head, very neat place. Have surfed a bit on the Cobden side and spend a few tipsy nights in the clubhouse out there, it's prob gone now

We have something in common, though I surfed just as much on the Blaketown side.

The Club rooms are still there and by all accounts look better than ever. The late Pete Bell planted native gardens around the club rooms and on the tip head, the whole area is very attractive and quite a popular spot.
