No mention of how much more quickly bridges fail when people who don't like the bridge sabotage them, chipping away at the concrete, spraying acid into the cracks where the steel is exposed.

You mean, warning people of the wear and tear, Anonymous? Let's hear what you really think.

Read my comment at 2:05PM again.
Still miss the meaning?
I suppose thugs who damage the property of those they disagree with is a form of warning, to be fair.

Very interesting.

And disturbing.

I have a few questions about the Arch Druids comments of a gradual decline (over 100-300 years I think he said) and how that relates to the modern world.

While I accept this has been the norm throughout history, and while not wanting to commit the sin of "the pride of the present", I think there are perhaps some unprecedented aspects to our current "empire" and it's imminent collapse.

Basically, the world has never been as connected as it is now, population never this high, economies never so co-dependant and weapons never as powerful.

I can't help but wonder whether the relative 'comfort' of a gradual decline may be about as optimistic as one can get.

Expect the best, prepare for the worst?
Either way, there are things to be done. The Archdruid's earlier works talk abou gathering stuff (good tools, books etc) and learning how to do things (grow food, preserve food etc) as well as build a connected community. Presently, he's saying 'you should be well under way, no point in waiting, early adapters are the survivors'. I agree with him.Plus, great adventure! Your kid's'll love it! Better than camping (similar to camping!) :-)

I dont have time to gather tools, books and seeds. I'm too busy building the diving board in front of my house for when global warming hits... man it's taking a long time........... waiting waiting. Stuff it, think I'll watch tv.

I think the key is that it is up to us, where we are and with what we have nowish. We create our life and we can choose (within reason) what we give up and what we won't. The choice is give it up now or be forced to a bit later on. Pretty easy with something's but gets tricky with some comforts we have grown accustomed to. I like the 'non-blame game, just getting on with the job game' better than the usual position of so many.
