I can only guess, without asking around, but yes, a railway building - looks like a switch house to me but whether it's beside what was track or whether it's been relocated, I couldn't tell. It looked completely out of place.I didn't want to venture closer as there were bulls bellowing and I couldn't see where they were.
Pretty much, though I did vault the fence to get a shot of another interesting building. I'll post that when I get back home. Will you Google-map search it, or have you committed the location of all Southland switchhouses to memory?

That's beautiful, do you know what the building was used for? It is quite distinctive.
Thinking about it, my guess is it's a railway building. Probably from the Waimea Plains Branch, rather than the Switzers Branch.

If you shot it from the road, I can probably tell you whether it has been moved or not.

Can't find it. Is it on the Balfour side of Riversdale?
Otherwise I'm guessing it has been moved.
It was on the Balfour side, maybe 2 km before Riversdale, on the left, 100 metres off the road, beside a macrocarpa hedge.
