The first is a rampantly growing perennial that has strong bamboo-like stems that grow 1 1/2 metres high.
Any ideas? I'm keen to grow it, as the stems look really useful, but need to be a responsible grower :-)
Next was this tree, which had leaves like an ash, but fruits like an apple...sort of.

If that's my starter for ten, then I'm stuffed.
I've done some work in the background, Robert. The perennial is a dreaded knotweed, scourge of the concrete jungle, which it can destroy. It's a mega-pest, according to the literature - Giant Knotweed, it seems, edible and enjoyed by the Japanese but sets alarm bells ringing here.
The second is a True Service Tree, akin to a rowan and has fruits that are edible and tasty when bletted and make a particularly pleasing cider. In all of the fruits I collected, I found only 3 seeds and only ever one per fruit. Curious, as they are just like apple seeds and they are usually many per apple. I'll try to grow the tree but perhaps, with regret, incinerate the knotweed, though it's stems still appeal...
