The Water of Leith, indeed. The concrete speaks volumes, doesn't it, to our misunderstanding of our rivers, streams, creeks and every other waterbody imaginable. My son tells me he was cycling alongside of the Leith and keeping pace with him, in the water and making no apparent effort at all, was a 1.5 meter-long octopus!

Is that the Leith? Concrete lining really does nothing for the eye, or the wildlife for that matter.

I have about as much respect for councils who line watercourses with concrete as I do for farmers who discharge effluent into streams.
