| Me, getting back into planting shrubs |
It's hard to imagine I know, but there are some who believe I share my thoughts too freely!
Today's newspaper carries a letter from 'Sick to the back teeth' of Winton, who's had enough of my constant eroding-away of the world she loves; my criticisms of environmental degradation and the agencies who carry it out I can only presume she means, and wishes me to get out and about in my own town, planting some shrubs and cleaning up the sandy beaches. She sounds a pragmatic sort of woman who no doubt spends a lot of her own time bucket and spade in hand, so perhaps I'll invite her to help with the next task on my list; spreading cow manure around the 350 young apple trees at our West Plains orchard. She'll love it. Smelly but satisfying.
My wife wants to write a letter in reply to Julies' asking what her own husband is like and would she consider a swap?
I hope she does it.
Criticism of a critic
Obviously Robert Guyton's day time job is letter writing - many are getting very tired of his views consistently on the front page of the paper or taking up public opinion space. I believe he lives in Riverton. Could he put some energy into tidying up beach areas, getting rid of noxious weeds - open drains and organising planting of natives his shop sells.
To be seen to be doing something may bring more respect than his ongoing letter writing critical of every agency, Government department and so on.

I think you have more than earned your right to comment Robert.
I would suggest planting those trees for an entirely different reason - to keep yourself grounded and at peace in the midst of the negativity that will be thrown your way.
I am sure you can deal with such pressures better than I can, but if you ever need to get away and plant some trees and experience some beautiful scenery (and some 'gentle' arguments ;) ), all you have to do is ask and I will arrange a wee getaway for as many Guytons as necessary.
We may even have a holiday home available shortly (our new project).
Thanks Shunda. Some folks just don't appreciate us loud-mouths!
I plant trees week in, week out, so aren't going to anguish over that. I'll put a couple in for Ms Golding anyway. She'll like that.
As for visiting your coast and arguing gently with you, yes please!
Once I've cleaned this place up, I'll pull on my cycling shorts and head west with Robyn in tandem.
