Wellington was rocked by an earthquake last night, but the shaking up that seems to be coming its way is not a geological one, but political, if these snippets from The Standard and Bowalley Road are fair indications of the mood of he nation.
"“Governments should always be afraid of their people, but people should never be afraid of their government.”
(If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.)
Our own darkhorse is exhibiting the same simmering-and-about-to-boil-over expressions of discontent - I think we are in for a very interesting next-few-weeks!
(I haven't even mentioned Shunda's fulminating, but that's like background music here. It's telling though. The heat is on.)

When left leaning commentator, Gordon Campbell has an argument with Hone Harawira (presumably about the more extreme stand he is taking against asset sales) and yet Hone has huge support for his actions in an online poll-the government should be worried. For smiling John to have his popularity eroded, while Hone experiences the opposite makes these interesting times indeed.
Lesley's letter in today's paper shows her intentions, bsprout. You'll be clipboard in hand, standing on a windy Invercargill street corner?
LOL at the old lefty Trotter's article as he rewrote history
I don't think you can put the 1952 Strike down as a left wing win, the Union lost Labour looked weak "neither for or against" and when an election was called the right won by its best margin ever
Worrying that the left only believe in democracy when they win
Raymond - I should copy and post for you an recent article in a local rag where a Federated Farmers spokesman described the filling of a local Council chamber with 100-plus angry-mob farmers, scowling at the Councillors over their plans to introduce a new rule.
"Democracy triumphs!" the writer heralded.
Not lefties, those Feds.
Not by a long stretch.
seems so odd that no one one the right seems to figure that the power consumer and the tax payer are the same person and selling something you already own to so you can rent it back for a higher price is just plain stupid.
and foreign debt and foreign ownership are one and the same thing except that debt is cheaper-and if they think "mum and dad" will buy this they need look no further than what happened to TELSTRA =when John Howard sold that to mum and dad. The other real risk to the investor is that once sold the government can then regulate the price and destroy capital value (telecom!) There is no way to look at this and see any good in it - while there is a huge loss of opportunity.
John key should stick to gis usual silly ideas like cycleways and rugby world cups -at least the losses there are relatively minor and that action - pretty obvious why he became a banker -didn't have the wit for a real job. And yes it is time for chopping down some flag poles -particularly when weasels like Dunn see that loyalty to the agreement with the national party (ie his job) is more important than ethics or loyalty to the people of NZ. When will Karori stop voting for a hair piece and go for something with a brain instead. Pass the axe Hone

I always know when I make Robert mad, he mentions me in his posts!!.
Just.....can't......quite......get me.....in.....the ......box!
Yours is the West Coaster, ex-communicated New Lifer, enviro-warrior, cider-swiller, Clark-hater box, Shunda. You fit in there quite snugly, though you do wriggle around a bit :-)
Haven't had cider for ages.
And you owe me some cider.
I'll put some down for you.
And I don't hate Helen Clark, I just don't like her politics.
And I was never an "excommunicated New Lifer" it involved the Elim church and was a whole lot more nasty than a nice simple excommunication :(
