Harvest festival

There's much to say about this year's harvest festival. It was very good and people loved it by all accounts. The atmosphere was conviviality mixed with enthusiasm, and that smells of apples, oat straw and pride. Children hula-hooped and wove corn dollies. The apple press turned constantly, squirting out good Southland juice with a promise of cider. The canteen went right off, selling all of it's pumpkin pies, banana split with chocolate (FairTrade, naturally) and onion soup. The girls looked fresh faced and charming in their gingham pinnies. People talked and talked and talked. Green MP, Steffan Browning came down from Wellington to speak about the Food Bill and he fitted in with the festival-goes like he was one of us.
I'll write more fully later, but for now, some images from the weekend.

Stilts? they had STILTS?
And no hard hats, hi-viz or safety footwear.
I hope the timber was untreated.

Thanks animal - great to see you there. The Southland Times went overboard, reporting on the festival, didn't they!
As too the stilt walking, a little pre-lubrication means all fall is taken with a jaunty laugh and the broken bones barely hurt at all!
