Today's round-up

Perfect for gardens and gardeners, was today. Perhaps a little too hot and bright for the open garden, but I was able to flit in and out of the dappled shade of the forest and keep sun-burn at bay.
I've just come inside now from transplanting the last of the hollyhocks into the damp soil alongside of the creek. I don't know how they'll do there, but I'll find out in time. I tied up the tall seed heads of the sea-beet so that they don't blow over before their seed matures and mowed a stand of oats with my Niwashi Shark. I then poked swollen peas into the soil among the stubble, rather than cultivate. We've done that before and it works a treat. It was very pleasant standing beside the beds I'd cultivated earlier today and watching the blackbirds clean up after me. A tui flew in too, not onto the  ground, but into the harakeke to sip wai korari from the puawai. He showed no fear of me at all, though I was within arm's reach of him. A kereru flew directly above us and at a low altitude, and frightened the Parsonbird away. I could hear the piano being played by Britt, the German girl who's staying with us at the moment, so I wandered back to the house. Now, she's going to read to us from her favourite book.
