Vote Green, or your grandchildren will be really pissed off!
If you are a Bright Green, or just bright and want to know about the Greens, Bryce Edwards is hosting a series of three studies on the Greens and how stunningly marvelous they are :-) In fact, the articles are an in-depth look at why the Greens do what they do and where it might take them. A very good read, imho.

That kid needs a smacked bottom!!
Can't allow the young to express their anger at our environmentally destructive behaviour, eh Shunda. I'm pretty sure she's a Coaster.

Ha!! have you ever seen what a group of boys (and girls for that matter) will do to the 'environment' when no one is looking??
Kids won't care until adults care.
Diggers and chainsaws and smashing things is cool, planting trees and saving birds is 'gay'.
Nanny' big brother is watching your bum smacking ways Shunda...
And planting trees s not just gay - its gay and LAME.
And hurts your back.
"Diggers and chainsaws and smashing things is cool, planting trees and saving birds is 'gay'."
Shunda's from the Coast
Shane has no excuse, aside from his pressing desire to stir the pot of social discontent :-)
Robert, you know I love trees.
Surely you understand what I mean??
I have been doing some planting days with kids recently. What I notice is a handful are really keen, the middle group are just glad they are not at school, and the rest are too busy throwing fertiliser tablets at each other and having sword fights with the bamboo stakes to care about 'gay' tree planting!!
It's the adults that need to step up and show the kids another way (which hopefully is what we are doing)
Word verification is "Pidle" :-)
Shunda - if the kids aren't planting trees with passion, they weren't primed properly, so I guess, the adults need to own that. That said, teaching ain't easy :-)
Hey, if you have any tips, I am all ears, a good teacher is worth their weight in gold I reckon.
I am being approached by all sorts of groups of late, the Coast is changing (rapidly) Robert, I am feeling much more positive about the place.
I am keen to learn as much about being a good "people person" as I can, so my request for tips is very genuine :-)
The changes on the Coast are mirroring those everywhere, I reckon Shunda and I'm delighted to hear about them!
Regarding children and tree-planting, the first thing to know (and I think you already do) is that it ain't easy! It's not a natural activity, in the way that throwing stones into a pond or whacking the tops off thistles with a stick, is.
Digging holes on hard soil is a chore. If parents can do that first, half your battle is won. I teach that the roots are the essential part of the tree at planting-time and have to be set as if they were sitting on a small hill/mound, so that they are shaped naturally. I get kids to dig the planting hole, then form a small mound in readiness for the tree and its roots. Once they've arranged those roots over the mound, their friend helps ba-fill the hole. I talk about this process before we get anywhere near the planting site. Does this help? It's really important that the children know the basics before they get into the field.get them to model the root thing with hand over fist, or draw it, or some other method. The actual planting needs to be at the end of the educative process, not during it :-)
Go the children of the Coast!
back-fill
Oh, and I forgot the obvious - take away the bamboo canes and the fertilizer pellets! Minimize the opportunities for mischief and they'll become 'good' children.
"Minimize the opportunities for mischief and they'll become 'good' children." I some-times wonder if that's not a mantra for those in/seeking power.
Rob, have you not got any inspirational before and after shots for Shunda's kids to keep their interest up?
We've got another planting later today as part of the kids holiday program, will be mixed ages this time so will be interesting.
Buddy them up, Shunda, make the older responsible for the success of the younger. Praise the younger openly and keep the praise for the older a little more subtle. Don't give anyone craft-knives :-)
I'll have a search, Suz.
