That's the classic "Bill English" ploy, Fred and it won't wash here. You may be successfully blinding yourself with it, but how long can you run with 'it's the previous Government's fault', when these turkeys presently squatting in their plush (heated) seats, claim to be financial clever-men, yet they've not repaired the damage you claim was Labours, they've in fact, made the situation very much worse! All thast borrowing, Fred! All that borrowing. Is that what you expected when you voted for them? Incompetence, Fred, should not be excused because of ideology.
That's a damning graph.
English and Key should hang their heads in shame.

Rubbish, Rg, absolute rubbish, and you know it. On this occasion manners go out the door. It is your blog, and you may post at will. Thanks to your indulgence you absorb comments - both good and bad, and occasionally ugly.
Anyone with Economics 101 will tell you of the lag time in financial effects. This is one of those times. The policies of consecutive labour administrations in times when money should have salted away it was spent on unproductive whims and then when the s..t hit the fan globally, our accounts were in no shape to cope.
This not a 'classic' Bill English ploy, it is cold hard economic facts. Are you so obtuse Rg that even something this simple escapes you? Methinks not. You are just being .......... - word moderated by self.

'ornery', was that it, Fred?
If this is truly the best National can do, they should be turfed out at the coming election. Their 'skills' have taken us down, not up - we haven't caught up with Australia, to use the 'everyman's' measure that Key trumpeted when he gained power. The details of whay that is, all point to failure from the National Government. And it looks like we are to suffer another credit down-grade. This is supposed to be their area of specialty, Fred. You'll understand why I despair at their management of the environment then, an area in which they are widely recognised to be worse than weak! If they can't handle Finance, Environment is totally screwed!

Its you that are "screwed" Rg. totally so screwed that you can no longer reason. National's skills have staved off an economic disaster - the making of which I allude to already in the thread.
The credit 'downgrade' you so wildly trumpet is only a third rating agency doing what has already been confirmed by two others. We have been downgraded once, or dont you understand basic economic principles.
Perhaps you are singing to the bagpipes you have posted - only just keeping your head above water.

And our net international liabilities have fallen from 85% of GDP in 2008 to 69% now (and are still falling), so would be interesting to see what your graph makers think of that.
