Mayor Cardno

How very, very lucky we Southlanders are to have Frana Cardno as our mayor.
While other mayors are talking-up economics and urging us to drill and dig, Frana's reminding us all that we have a duty to our children and grandchildren. She says (Oct 15), "I strongly believe we are only borrowing the land from future generations." and she is right. The Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, Jan Wright agrees with Frana, and is also encouraging us to think of the future and say no to mining lignite. The message from the mayor and the commissioner is far more believable than that of the oil, coal and gas men.
Mayor Cardno and Commissioner Wright have Southland's future at heart.

(I've just sent this letter off to The Southland Times, in response to the excellent Opinion piece in today's paper, which I will reproduce in my next post.)

Well said Robert hear hear ..I agee what a refreshing change from Frano ...I am envious of Southland District ..cant see Frano expecting a $40thousand donation given in secret all for puffery about what a wonderful asset she is ra ra

Frana's no Shadbolt, Pauline?
Agreed and she's on the button with this one. Swimming against the mayoral tide too. Tracy Hicks is donkey-deep in touting for Solid Energy's Big Dig plans.

Re Tracy I find this is the saddest. He stood for years-for Parliament as a social creditor later a democrat for SC.

The tenants of the SC party are in total opposition to Tracy's stance on lignite. SC Tenants basically the stand for maximum community impute for maximum long term community well being. It was the Social credit party years ago that initially introduced green policy into NZ. Tracy was then a key member/candidate for SC.

I didn't know that, Pauline. I'll ask him about his turn-around when I see him next.
Perhaps he feels compromised.
