Loos'n'fees

First it was their loos, now it's their fees. Whitebaiters are feeling put-upon by the council who had the temerity to require that the use of long-drops within 50 metres of the rivers in which the 'baiters net, be discontinued and now they have something else to worry and protest about - the cost of their 'inspection fees'. The whitebaiters say they are 'people with little or no income'  and the fees - up from$40 to $115 per year, is a major impost. The council says the cost of inspecting the baiting stands has to be met by the users. It's all a bit of a shock to those involved. Meanwhile, the sun turns in the sky, whitebait continue to follow their ancient watery pathways, looking for a place to lay their eggs and the tension between elected councils and the electorate continues to be much as it always was.

considering cows only have to be 15ft? 5m? from waters edge?....

bollocks - how many cows in comparison to baiters?

nothing against not having loos within 50m but at least make it the same for the cow cockies!!

obviously not all turd is alike!!

Good point Cheyne. And it's only 3 metres!
Mind you, the depth of a long-drop is part of the issue. Takes the matter down closer to the water table and prevents aerobic bacteria from doing their good work and yes, human manure is a more serious issue than bovine. There are all sorts of pathogens that you wouldn't want to have in your drinking water and those that come from humans have the potential to do most harm.
That said, let's keep all mammal manure out of the rivers, if we possibly can.

I wonder if it will alter the flavour of the whitebait?

It's what gives the whitebait their flavour Fred. You've just grown accustomed to it :-)
