Spider Woman
Sometimes, the things people say amaze me. Here's an example from today's newspaper.
A 'Christchurch coal company boss', extolling the virtues of coal and the difficulties the industry faces with roaring ahead, said:
"As you walk down the aisle of supermarkets, many products have been kissed by coal in their journey from raw state to useable consumer item."
Kissed. By. Coal.
Poetry!
He also said:
"Sadly, coal is a misunderstood product by the general public."
Mr Perkins, coal-man told the Southland Times that he was here in Southland to 'prepare coal customers' and ready them 'to best use lower-energy coals'.
I may meet Mr Perkins today at the Solid Energy presentation at the Kelvin Hotel.
That's an event I'm really looking forward to. I'll scribble Mr Perkins' quotes on a scrap of paper in case there's an opportunity to ask him a question or two about pashing coal :-)

Coal is not evil Robert, it is a black sedimentary rock.
Surely the problem is in the way it can be used?
When used to manufacture certain carbon rich products, said carbon is still stuck in said product, is that really so bad?
Or should we rename this dark mineral Beelzebub-zite or perhaps Satan stone and banish it's use forever!!
Not evil!!?
My mother has a lot to answer for then Shunda - her and those scarey nursery rhymes and fairy stories.
Tell me, what what are these products that are made from carbon that sequester that substance for as long as it might otherwise have stayed in the ground, and how much mined coal is turned into these fabulous things of which you speak?
Will carbon-fibre fishing rods save us from climate melt-down?
It's the devil I tells ya!!
