that's a fascinating looking, pipe. Is it asbestos or steel? Any chance of a photo looking at the inside of the collar, or a location so i can come and look at it myself?

Assuming you're not pulling my leg...I'll happily get some shots of the throat and other angles - I'll even drag it home for you if you want it. It's presently lying on the bed of the estuary at Riverton, below the new museum. It's steel and about as thick as my forearm. Are you a pipe aficionado?

Not pulling your leg. Pipes are one of humanity's great inventions. The apparent age of the pipe, and being made of iron contrast with the shape and design of the collar. Is it from an old industrial site? Something that required pressurised steam?

It's part of a bank containment/shoring-up effort from days gone by. It may well be a steam pipe from the old clothing factory where they used steam to press and clean. I once had the bronze whistle in my possession and that may have fitted into this system somewhere. Do you want it?
I'll certainly get photos and now I'm interested in pipes!

it might look nice on its end in a garden, with a creeper or flower growing out of it. I'm not really in a position to take it atm. In any case, it's a little piece of history, so it's not really mine to possess. A more local guardian would be better.

There are others there. I'll photograph them in any case.
