Mahi nga kai

This body of water is a disused fire pond such as were common in our town i nga wa o mua. Now it's just ... there and serves no purpose other than to the inanga that swim into it from the estuary, and eels that feed on them. Someone has sunk a hinaki into the pool and must visit it regularly to collect the tuna, I'm guessing - I've not seen the fisherman, though I have a fair idea who he is. My concerns are two-fold. Firstly, hauling out the biggest eels (it's a big pot) will harm the population of eels quickly enough but hey, the people I think are at the eating end of this process are poor but secondly, the stream is polluted with resin from a nearby factory that burns or at least did in the past, it's waste right beside the stream. I'd be very cautious about the quality of the fish from this section of water way. In fact, I'd never eat fish from it but there you go, needs must.
